LEAGUE RULES & LAYOUT

Keeping things fair and fun! Rules may differ for novelty/theme leagues.

🪓 The Slice Axe Throwing Leagues – General Rules & Info

Note: We are not affiliated with WATL or IATF. These are rec leagues.

League Basics

  • Duration: 7 weeks (6 weeks of matches + 1 week playoffs)

  • League Night: 1 set night per week (e.g., Thursday @ 7 PM)

  • Free practice up to 45 mins before start time. Please share lanes.

  • Players: 12-24 throwers per league.

  • Format: Singles (each person competes individually)

  • Age Limit: 16+ (minors must be added to a guardian's waiver)

Weekly Schedule

Each week, players play four 1v1 matches (consisting of 10 throws each).

  • Schedule is rotated so everyone faces each other at least once throughout the season.

Match Format & Rules

  • 10 throws per person.

  • Higher total score wins the match.

  • If tied → sudden death (first player to outscore the other in a single throw).

  • If absent from league night, the player may throw their 4 games on a different day, supervised by staff to ensure fair scoring. Your points will go towards your total score, however all 4 games will be marked as losses. Players with an absent opponent will still throw for their score, and receive an automatic win.

Scoring System

  • Bullseye = 6 points

  • Inner ring = 5 points

  • Next ring = 4 points

  • Outer ring = 3 / 2 / 1 points (working outward)

  • Clutch or Killshot (corners) = 8 points (only allowed if “called” before the throw in the 5th & 10th round. If the player misses a called Clutch, they receive 0 points)

Axe Position

  • If the axe blade spans more than one ring, count the highest ring score (e.g., if the blade is barely catching the bullseye - it is a bullseye).

  • If players cannot decide where an axe lies, call a staff member for official review. Staff calls are final.

Standings

Total points AND wins/losses are tracked.

  • Primary standings: Total points scored throughout entire season.

  • Tiebreaker: Win-loss record.

  • Secondary tiebreaker: Head-to-head result.

Playoffs (Week 7)

  • All players qualify.

  • Bracket is seeded by standings (e.g., 1v12, 2v11, 3v10).

  • Match format: Best 2 out of 3 games (each game = 10 throws).

  • Finals: Best 3 out of 5 games.

Axe Types

The Slice provides two specific axes for league play.

  • WATL Kill Shot (17", 2.5lbs)

  • Estwing 25A (14", 2.2lbs)

*Throwers may bring their own throwing axe, providing it is approved by our staff. Cannot exceed 17" and the head must be firmly attached. Please reach out ahead of time with details.

*Our novelty/ninja axes cannot be used - odd blade shapes/styles could present an unfair advantage.
